As one of the most successful competitive foil fencing clubs in the San Francisco Bay area and the United States, we focus on starting early with children ages 6+ to ensure that they develop all the necessary skills and abilities for a prolonged and successful fencing career!

Meet The Team

Oleksii Muruhin

Oleksii Muruhin has been involved in fencing for more than 25 years. He is a former Ukrainian National Champion and a member of the Ukrainian National Fencing Team at the Senior, Junior and Cadet levels, as well as a member of the Ukrainian Military National Fencing Squad. He has represented Ukraine at numerous World Cups, World Championships, Military World Championships and Military World Games. Oleksii has a Master's Degree in Physical Education and Olympic Sports from the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine. Oleksii has been coaching in the United States since 2002. His students have won or placed highly in numerous Regional and Super Regional Circuit tournaments, North American Cups and National Championships. Oleksii's students have also represented the United States at World Cup tournaments and World Championships.

Yuliya Muruhin

Yuliya Muruhin

Yuliya has been involved in fencing for more than 20 years. She is a former member of Ukrainian Military Fencing Squad and has represented Ukraine at numerous international tournaments.

Yuliya has a Master's Degree in Physical Education and a Degree in Sports Psychology from the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine.

Her students have won or placed highly in numerous Regional, Super Regional and National Tournaments.

Vil Nagimov

Vil Nagimov

Vil Nagimov has been involved in fencing for more than 35 years. He is a former member of Russian National Team. Vil received his Master’s Degree in Physical Education and Sports from the Uralsk State Academy of Physical Education of Russia.

 

Vil has been coaching in Russia since 1998, Vil’s students were selected for Russian National Team, Belorussian National Team, and won numerous national and international level competitions. Vil has been coaching in the United States since 2015. His students won medals in many Regional and Super Regional Circuits tournaments and North American Cups. From 2017 Vil is a coach at Silicon Valley Fencing Center.

Andrej Raisch

Andrej Raisch

Andrej Raisch has been involved in fencing for almost 20 years. He is a former German National Champion and a former member of the German National Team, competing at World Cups, European Championships and World Championships.

 

After working at one of the most successful fencing clubs in Germany Andrej moved to US in 2016, and since then his students won numerous medals at National and International tournaments and were finalists at World Championships.

 

Andrej’s students also represented the US travel team and the Canadian National Team.

Nastia Churkova

Nastia has been devoted to fencing for more than 30 years. She has a Master’s degree as a fencing coach from Smolensk State Institute of Physical Culture.

 

She is a former member of Russian National team and worked in Russia until 2015. Her students represented regional and national fencing teams; they were winners of regional and national tournaments.

 

Nastia moved to the United States in 2015. Since then her students have won medals in many regional and national tournaments.

Andrei Kuryshka

Andrei has been in fencing for almost 28 years. He has a Master's Degree in Physical Education from Belarusian State University of Physical Culture and Sport.

 

Andrei is a former Belarusian National Champion. He represented Belarus Senior National Team for 6 years. He is a finalist of the Junior European Championship, Junior World Cups, and also European Championship U23.


Andrei started to work in Belarus as a fencing coach in 2012. In 2017 he became a head coach of the Belarusian foil women’s cadet fencing team. During his work in Belarus, his students won medals in Cadet European Championship, Belarusian Senior, Junior, and Cadet Championships. Andrei moved to the US in 2018. Since then, his students won medals in many Regional, Super Regional tournaments and Summer National Championships.

In addition, Andrei started refereeing competitions as an International FIE referee in 2015. He was a referee of the final matches of the World Championship, European Championships, and World Cups.

​

Finally, Andrei is proud of being a student of the Legendary Olympic, Ten-Time World Champion Alexander Romankov.

Lucia Procopio

Lucia has been involved in fencing for over 15 years. 

She holds a Masters Degree in Sport Coaching and Leadership from Michigan State University.

Prior to joining the SVF team, Lucia was the primary youth development coach for another top US fencing club, served as Assistant Coach and Interim Head Coach at Wayne State University, and was captain of Northwestern University's NCAA program.

Her students have won or placed highly in numerous Regional, Super Regional and National Tournaments.
